Merdeka! Merdeka! MERDEKA!!!!

Three little words a bunch of insane youths were yelling at the top of their lungs at what seemed to be the top of the world...........okay not quite the top of the world but certainly the BEST view for a fireworks display.

No we weren't in the middle of big bright shooting sparklers being deafened by all the hooha and terrific bangs. We were kilometres away from the actual display sites but we got a view of nearly every fireworks display worth watching. From dataran merdeka to genting.......we saw it all man. It was FANTASTIC!!!!

Yes, we had a great time celebrating merdeka. But let's think about this.....what exactly are we celebrating? Freedom? From what exactly?

From a fair evaluation system based upon merit? From quality education? From (possibly) an honorable and less corrupt law enforcement system?

This would be the core topic of discussion amongst the insane youths as they sat back in reflection about their current position in Malaysia. How our 'place' has been nearly pre-destined and our paths 'limited' to certain ranks, positions and pathways. How every crutch the'powers-that-be' provide themselves with serves only as an obstacle which we strive to overcome. So whatever doesn't kill us only makes us stronger. Yes perhaps for that we can be grateful. We have mastered the art of survival.

Yes, we do 'whatever it takes' to survive. 'What it takes' being hard work and immense support from our parents - financially, morally and spiritually. I am grateful for parents who teach us to think for ourselves, to not blindly follow any doctrine (religious or otherwise), to do what is RIGHT.......unfortunately 'right' is sometimes subjective. Talk about a catch 22 huh?

But i digress. 'Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country' applies in the land the statement was made. A RELATIVELY free land - or so it is claimed. Is there such a thing as a free land? Especially for descendants of immigrants? Think about it...........even utopia has its faults.

What does terrorism mean? At this point in time many would equate terrorism to the bombings and such attacks made by radicals. I personally think that terrorism means to disrespect another human beings basic rights. The right to life, the right to an education, the right to make an honest living. I don't mean that governments need to start giving out welfare, in fact if people weren't greedy, egotistical and lazy there would be no need for welfare.

But what we do need is the assurance that we will not be attacked or punished for just being who we are. Please read this article: http://atrocitynews.wordpress.com/files/2006/10/khairlanji.pdf

The article illustrates how mindless people can still be. This exists even in first world countries where homo phobia is integrated with religion to excuse mongoloids of heinious crimes. "God's work" or word my arse...............People butcher the essence of religions, interpreting them in ways to suit their own selfish needs. Islam, Chritianity, Buddhism, whatever!!

For as long as the word of one person is taken to be the truth without question, people have been robbed of their right to think. This is the birth of terrorism - where prople feel they must surrender their very thought for fear of 'punishment' (whatever form it may take).
